(August 24, 2018) Kanawha Scales & Systems is pleased to announce that Joe Moreno has accepted the Service Manager position for its Pittsburgh and Fairmont locations. Joe came to KSS when the company acquired Ohio Valley Scale in October of 2016 and has served as a service and calibration technician since.
Joe has worked in scales for 19 years, gaining a solid background and the qualifications necessary to manage this very demanding position for two locations. He started his career at Certified Scale Inc., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, starting as an apprentice and working up to senior technician. He also worked as an account manager and sales manager concurrently during his last few years there, before moving to Pennsylvania to work for OV Scale in 2012. During his tenure Moreno’s honed several specialties running the gamut from laboratory balances in an isotope lab to dynamic rail scales.
Joe says, “I’ve always enjoyed the challenges and diversity of this business. I love meeting new people and never repeating my tasks day to day. As service manager, I’m looking forward to new challenges and working with customers to satisfy their needs from a different angle. At KSS, the support of a large, diverse group of shops in different markets gives us the support we need when jobs arise that might be outside of an individual’s expertise.”
Moreno was born and raised in North Central Texas and is the youngest of eight children. He and his wife, Alicia, moved from the Midwest to Pittsburgh and settled in the North Hills in 2012. They have a young son, Leo, and a baby girl, Daphne. He studied music performance in school, plays guitar and piano, and likes to joke that, “at least I’m still in ‘scales.’” Joe also enjoys fly fishing and looks forward to teaching his kids how to fib about the size of fish they catch!
